Project Gliding Tower

August 2001

To make a long story short, for a while now, my husband had been pondering buying a cat climbing tower for our sugar gliders, Ezri & Shiva, but as it happened, we replaced an old carpet in our kitchen and he decided to make it into a DIY project.

After several trips to Home Depot and promises that it would only take a weekend to build (*laugh*), he forged ahead on the project. Location? Our living room.

Don't worry though, we've been through this before, when the 6ft tall cage was built for my girls last August.... if this is a pattern though, I'm not looking forward to next August.

At the end of the first night (Saturday) you can see what we had, besides sawdust:

Okay, so its a bit crooked, but you can't really tell if that's my photography skills at work or his building skills at fault. *wink* Of course, the photo of the first night would not be complete without the crowning achievement of the future climbing tower - the giant orange bucket from hell.

I won't bore you with the details.... but 3 days, several thousand staples and 4 tubes of super glue later, you can see my husband vaccuming the tower towards the end of its building days...

And now, here are two images of it for all intents and purposes, complete and in its new spot in our apartment.

Da Girls will be testing it out tonight, now that all the cleaning up is done. Let you know how it goes. For reference, since we used an old carpet, it only cost us $80 to build, and most of that wasn't even spent on wood.
